To protect the city’s infrastructure investments, it is necessary to regulate the weight of vehicles traveling over the roads. This is especially true during the freeze/thaw cycles of early spring. When such conditions are indentified by the Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT) and/or the city engineer, seasonal restrictions are imposed until the danger of frost break-up is past.

To facilitate the necessary movement of commercial vehicles, it may be necessary to permit overweight vehicles over certain city roads. Permits will only be issued when the hauler demonstrates loads cannot be broken down further. Such permits are at the sole discretion of the city engineer. For more information on overweight permits, call the number below.

Any damage caused to City of Plymouth streets, including those under permit, are subject to repair costs by the vehicle owner if such damage is from that activity. The Plymouth Police Department has the authority to stop any vehicle that may be overweight and require proof of permit.
