As Plymouth continues to grow, develop, and redevelop, urbanization will continue to impact the quality of ponds, wetlands, streams, and lakes. The City Council, with assistance from our Environmental Quality Committee (EQC) has completed a Surface Water Management Plan to comply with the rules and requirements of the 2nd Generation Plans (Minnesota Statue 103B.235) of each watershed management organization (WMO) within the City (Bassett, Elm, Minnehaha, Shingle) and the Board of Water and Soil Resources (Minnesota Rule 8410).
The Water Resources Capital Improvement Program aids the City in reaching water quality and water quantity goals described in our Surface Water Management Plan and generally assists the City in better managing surface water resources. By annually updating the Water Resources Capital Improvement Program, we are establishing a comprehensive strategy to pro-actively address water quality and water quantity issues. Additionally, by addressing the effects of urbanization on water quality sooner rather than later, we can avoid costly infrastructure modifications, lost recreational opportunities and permanent changes to the existing biological systems in lakes, wetlands, streams, and ponds.
